What to expect

The reference filesystem server from the Model Context Protocol project. It only sees the folder you give it.

Sara refuses a folder that is her own data folder or a whole disk. Its code comes from npm (@modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem, version 2.1.0); we tested that version.

Manual tool-server setup

Open Settings → Add-ons → Other programs (MCP) → Add or update an MCP server. Choose Command on this server (stdio). Use the catalog recipe below, replacing any template values as explained under Configuration.

Command: npx
Arguments: -y @modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem@2.1.0 ${setting:FOLDER}

Configuration

The folder: The one folder she may read and change, for example your Documents\Notes folder. Pick a folder of its own, not a whole disk. In Arguments, replace ${setting:FOLDER} with the absolute path to the folder you choose on the computer running Sara. Put the path in double quotes, especially if it contains spaces. Do not paste the template token unchanged.

Example Arguments for an existing Windows folder named C:\SaraFiles:

-y @modelcontextprotocol/server-filesystem@2.1.0 "C:\SaraFiles"

Create or select your own dedicated folder first. Choose a narrow folder, not an entire drive.

Before connecting

Pick the folder, add this tool server, then press Test.

Use Save and connect, then check the connection and test result in Sara. Review the tools and permissions before using it.

Nothing switches on by itself. Review the permissions and settings; you can switch the add-on off in Sara.
